About Us
Darwin’s Story
We adopted Darwin in 2022 as a scared, sick puppy. She had just arrived at a shelter in Tampa, Florida after being transported from Alabama. Some of the other puppies in Darwin’s transport tested positive for Parvovirus. Luckily, Darwin was negative for Parvo. However, she was emaciated and had bacterial skin, ear, and vaginal infections. She had significant fear of confinement (crates, even leashes) after what we can only imagine to be a terrifying beginning in life.
Darwin became our first dog, our teacher, and our inspiration. Watching her heal - not just physically, but emotionally - showed us what compassion can do. She continuously reminds us that the ones with the biggest needs often have the biggest hearts.
We named this rescue after her, to honor the quiet strength she carries and to carry her legacy forward - one puppy at a time.
Our Mission
Most rescues focus on puppies who are already healthy and ready for adoption. We choose the ones who aren’t (yet).
We take in puppies with mange, malnutrition, deformities, wounds, or congenital conditions. We do it because they deserve a chance to be more than a diagnosis. With care, they can grow into strong, happy, adoptable dogs. And their stories inspire compassion that ripples far beyond our rescue.
Healing is slow work. But we believe it’s sacred work.
Darwin’s Dream Dog Rescue is a nonprofit organization based in New Hampshire dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need: particularly young puppies at risk of euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding and/or medical concerns. Our mission is to rescue animals with medical needs and provide them with expert care, love, and advocacy - because every pet deserves a chance.
Why Medically Vulnerable Puppies?
Meet the Team
We’re Cydney and Rachel, the humans behind Darwin’s Dream Dog Rescue. We started this small scale, foster-based rescue because we couldn’t stand seeing high-need puppies continuously passed over. Every life is worth fighting for.
We're not a big team - just a couple of people with big hearts doing what we can to make the world gentler for the ones who need it most.
Alongside us are generous donors and a growing community that believes in second chances.
